CATHOLIC COMMUNITY CAFETERIA THE DIVINE CHILD:
The Rotary members, Maximo Herrero and Rodrigo Teran visited this community cafeteria named The Divine Child which is located in San Joaquin, Pedregal on May 11, 2004. After assessing the conditions of the place, they verified that the place is run with great success by Javier Lider, together with a group of residents in the area. This group of community residents has run this community cafeteria for several years no on an independent basis. They provide daily meals consisting of breakfast and lunch to elderly people and children who attend primary school. Also, they give technical training and career orientation to youth groups as well as encourage sports programs and activities. Our Club supports this community cafeteria with weekly monetary donations which they utilize accordingly by means of meal identification cards.
       




WORKSHOP AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN:
This program aims at training women from marginal communities in learning a trade or the technical skill to find jobs. It has a cost of $21,000 dollars. It is funded by Rotary International and The Rotary club Panama Sur. The location of this project is in the area of Villalobos, in the Community of Pedregal, Panama. The religious nuns of the denomination Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus supervise the programs which are directed to young women from the community together with a small representation of an indigenous minority group. This project consists of providing the equipment necessary, implementation of training programs, installation of computer equipment and labs, installation of pastry and bakery equipment, beauty materials and a library. This project is implemented in order to obtain skilled workers in small business or micro businesses.
       





SUPPORT PROGRAMS OFFERED AT MONERRI YOUTH HOME:
Monerri Youth Home is located in the neighborhood of EL Chorillo, a community of low socioeconomic strata. This place is successfully run by the nuns called the Sisters of Charity of Saint Paul Vincent. Their goal is to provide orientation, education, and meal plans to a group of 100 children who attend different schools in the surrounding schools. The Rotary Club Panama Sur supports the nun's efforts by providing kitchen appliances, special rooms for elderly attention, meal budgets, and recently, we have started a pilot Project in Hydroponics in order to cultivate different vegetables that will be used to feed the people who attend the Home.
       


COMMUNITY CAFETERIA OF JESUS, BREAD AND LIFE:
This community cafeteria is successfully run by the Catechist Sisters of Sales. It is located in the area of Amelia Denis de Icaza in the district of San Miguelito, a low socioeconomic neighborhood. The main activity in this community cafeteria is not only teaching catechesis, but also providing family orientation classes, computer science, baking and cooking, and the like. 150 children in elementary school are fed by the nuns on a daily basis. Our Club cooperates with the nun's efforts by donating a monthly monetary budget to buy food and provisions. We are currently developing a scholarship program to train young adults in technical trades. We also donate books and school supplies.
       
MARY PROVIDER OF ESPINO HOME:
The Missionary Sisters of Mary Provider of Espino are located in the community of Espino in La Chorerra, Panama. They attend 5 community preschool education centers bordering the Lake Gatun.They provide meal plans and Basic education to 90 children whose ages range from 3-5 years old. They promote 50 children to the elementary level on a yearly basis. The Rotary Club contributes with monetary donations, making it possible to deliver nutritional cookies and milk that serve as healthy snacks for the children. These communities are being included in the Wheelchair donation program. Moreover, this year, the Club expects to donate school uniforms to the children.
       



EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS:
This year, in late March, before the begining of the rainy season and the academic year, three donations were delivered in several communities for educational asistanse. These communities were the following: Indigenous Community of Caobo of Congo River in Darien, Rural Community of Piedras Blancas in Lake Alajuela, and the Indigenous Community of Embera Pururu. Our Club delivered textbooks for the elementary grades, notebooks, backpacks, and school supplies like pencils and the like.
       






WHEELCHAIR PROGRAM:
This year our Club has delivered 30 wheelchairs to low income families in remote areas in Panama.
