The
Rotary Club Panama Sur was founded in June, 1971 as the second largest
Rotary Club in Panama City. It is comprised of 85 active members
in the 4240 District. Since its beginnings, our club has participated
in numerous activities and projects that benefit the community and
allows us, as a civic club to project our philosophy and our goals.
Moreover, our mission statement, which is to lend a hand, to develop
new friendships, to work in favor of those in social need, and the
like, is congruent with the projects, programs, community assistance,
funding events, charity events, and more that the Club carries out.
Some
examples of these are: providing wheelchairs to the physically challenged
members of the community who require financial assistance with them,
providing medical assistance in marginal communities with medicines,
and medical attention, construction of houses, schools, children's
community cafeterias, sanitary units in detention centers, donation
of computers, donation of electrical appliances and the like to
the many homes and religious convents that we support.
Some
of the educational programs that our club has promoted include merit
awards, scholarships, photography contests, professional/career
orientation, and many others that will assist children and youth
to adapt into our society in an informed and guided manner. The
Club has also promoted drug awareness programs, protect and maintain
the city clean programs. Culture, Ecology, Natural Resources, Save
the Planet, and several more issues are part of the Rotary Club's
goals in working in the community. Shortly, we can say that solidarity,
civism, morality, and values clarification are among our objectives
in order to serve as good role model and leaders in our community.
